The Love of Learning Course
When you sign up for this course you will receive five sets of information, each broken up into carefully paced lessons. You will be guided through the five steps that will help you discover exactly how to help your child become a better learner.

Step 1 Create your wish list for your child.
You know your child better than anyone else. You know what it will take for your child to regain their love of learning.
In this first step of the program you will learn how YOU influence your child’s learning and how to recognize what works and what doesn’t when you try to help your child learn. I show you how to set realistic, achievable goals that will allow you to monitor your child’s progress while motivating them to achieve more.
Step 2 Checking the basics
The reason children lose their love of learning and underachieve in school is because they do not know HOW to learn. They have not fully developed the learning skills they need to be able to learn.
In this step of the program you will be taken through a needs assessment and will discover which basic learning skills your child needs to develop.
You will create your child’s unique Learning Skills Profileⓒ, a way of understanding how weak or missing skills are preventing your child reaching their learning potential.
Step 3. Identify your child’s learning strengths
Learning becomes easier for children when they are taught in the way they learn best. The worksheets and information in these lessons will help you identify your child’s preferred learning style and to understand what that means for the way you offer support.
After completing your child’s Smarts Pieⓒ you will understand how your child likes to learn so that you can tailor the support you offer to meet your child’s specific needs.
On completion of these three steps you will be ready to start to write your child’s Prescription for Learningⓒ. This enables you to understand exactly what type of help your child needs so that you can make informed decisions about your child’s education.
In Steps 4 and 5 you learn the practical, precise ways that help you create your child’s Roadmap to Successⓒ. In these two steps I give you dozens of proven, practical ways that you ccan use to help your child become a better learner.
Step 4 Ways YOU can support your child’s learning
You influence how well your child learns. In this step I describe the learning skills your child needs and show you ways that you can help your child develop them. I show you dozens of practical ways to help your child develop the learning skills they need and how to adapt them to your child’s preferred style of learning.

Step 5 Ways others can support your child’s learning journey
Chances are that if your child has been struggling to learn for some time he or she will need extra support. In this step you will learn how to choose the type of extra support that meets your child’s learning needs. You will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of various types of tutoring, how to work with your child’s teacher, and when to get help form specialists.
By the end of the program you will have a complete picture of how your child learns, why he or she has lost their love of learning and what you can do to help.

Level 4. Personal support from Dr.Patricia Porter.
This level is for families who want an in-depth assessment of their child’s learning. Over three days I meet you to discuss your needs and wishes for your child and conduct an non-threatening, in depth assessment of your child’s learning skills. I use this information to write a detailed report on how your child learns, why he or she is struggling to learn and what your child is capable of learning. This report includes recommendations on ways to help your child reach his or her learning potential.
Follow up meetings with you and your child’s teachers ensure that your child gets the help he or she needs. I will keep in touch with you after you and your child have had a chance to work on the learning plan to see how things are going and to answer any questions you may have.
